Saturday 27th Jan 2010

The United teams were busy on Saturday with the Inter city finals and all other grades being played. Awesome to see United out there in full force again.
We have managed to get 3 new intermediate teams from Broadgreen this year. Welcome to the rangers, Red Hawkes and the Flames and a big thank you to all those coaches, managers and parents out there supporting these new teams. And a big thank you to Tui for her continued effort with the youth teams too. She is coaching an intermediate team and two secondary school / Mens B teams!!!! Wow!!
Our United Softball club teams now stands at:
Primary x 1, Intermediate x 4, Secondary School / Mens B x 2, Senior Womens x 1 and Senior Mens x 2.

The finals day started early with the R & B team winning by deafult to the Wairau team who couldn't come over from Blenheim which put them through on a win to g through to play Saints. A great game and the lost by one run in the last innings. Excellent effort. Next they faced Royals but just could get enough bat to ball to get the runs in, finishing 4th in the Womens Intercity Comp.

Although games were happening all over the park, the Club game of the day was between the Pirates and the Titans. It went down to the bottom of the 7th innings. Pirates had two on base, two out. Titans ahead by one. The Titans needed an out to win and of course the Pirates needed at least one to tie and two to win. Lucky for Ben he gloved a tidy drive up the middle and got Duck out. leaving the Titans as the winners!!!!!! A great game boys.

Softball still continues for another few weeks with the Travis Gibbs memorial Shield to be played for in the men's comp and the women playing for the Nerrelle Te Puri. The season of course will be wrapped up by the seniors traveling to new Plymouth for the NZ United Tourny. Yay!!!!!
